Ask Kim

As you can imagine our Owner and Senior Instructor gets a lot of questions, so we are going to start answering them every month on this page.

Stopping for Pedestrians

Question:

At what speed do I need to drive when I go through a construction zone?

Answer:

The easiest construction zones are the ones that have a posted speed limit.  Remember this is the MAXIMUM speed you should be travelling through the construction zone.  If there are a lot of machinery and people around, slow down below the speed limit.  Always watch for, and obey, the flag people.

If you come across a construction zone with no posted speed limit, slow down, watch for flag people, and always obey their signs and directions.  If they are telling you to slow down, SLOW DOWN!!  If they are telling you to stop, even if you don’t see any people or machinery working in the area in that moment – STOP!!  Always stay alert and watch for workers and machinery.

If a construction zone has no posted speed limit and no flag people, you need to take control.  Slow down to 30 km/hr and BE CAUTIOUS!

Too many construction workers are injured, or even die each year

because drivers are not being cautious –

USE COMMON SENSE AND SLOW DOWN!!
