Stopping for Pedestrians

Question:

Do you have to stop for someone trying to cross at a crosswalk if the amber lights are not flashing?

Answer:

Yes, you do!

A pedestrian still has the right to cross at a crosswalk, whether amber lights are flashing or not.  Many crosswalks are not equipped with the flashing amber lights and even if they are, a pedestrian may not know where the button is to activate the lights or the lights may not be working.

We as drivers cannot become lazy and depend on the “flashing yellow lights” to alert us to pedestrians at a crosswalk.  We SEE someone at the crosswalk, we THINK, and we DO the right maneuver, which is to stop and let the pedestrian cross.
