Question:

What do I do when I get to a roundabout?

Answer:

Roundabouts are larger than traffic circles and often used to control traffic flow in lieu of a traffic light.  Roundabouts usually have more than one lane going around the roundabout and can have more than four entrances and exits.

When approaching a roundabout, reduce your speed and make sure to pay attention to the signs as you approach to determine which lane will take you to your desired exit in the roundabout.  If you need to change lanes while in the roundabout, be sure to use the usual lane changing procedures of using your indicator and shoulder checking prior to moving in to a new lane.

Wait to enter the roundabout until there is a safe space in traffic to do so.  Be sure to watch for pedestrians when entering and exiting the roundabout and yield to any pedestrians waiting to cross.  When you want to exit the roundabout, let others around you know by using your right indicator once you have passed the exit JUST PRIOR to yours, then exit the roundabout at your exit.

ALWAYS take your time and wait to proceed until it is SAFE.
